Candlecademy
This Privacy Policy explains how Candlecademy (the “App”), operated by Rhys Branch (“we”, “us”, “our”), based in Australia, handles your information. The short answer: there is no account, your learning progress stays on your device, and the small amount of data the App sends us is anonymous usage data that cannot identify you.
To understand how the App is used, it batches and sends us small event records. Each record contains an event name (such as app opened, lesson started or completed, sim settled, paywall viewed, subscription started), occasionally minimal event properties (such as which lesson), the random per-install identifier described above, your platform, and the App version.
These records contain no personal details and are not combined with any other data source. Detailed records are kept on our server for up to 60 days; after that, only aggregate counts remain (for example, how many sims were settled on a given day). If you are offline, events queue on your device and send later; if our server stays unreachable, they are discarded.
The App has an optional feedback form. If you use it, the message you type, along with any contact detail you choose to include in it, is sent to our server and filed as a ticket in our private issue tracker, which is hosted on GitHub. This means GitHub, Inc. processes and stores the content of your feedback under GitHub’s Privacy Statement. Include contact details only if you would like a reply. To have a piece of feedback deleted, email us at the address below.
The optional Candlecademy Pro subscription is sold through Apple’s In-App Purchase system. Apple processes the payment; we never see your name, card number, or billing details. To activate your subscription and keep it in sync across reinstalls, the App uses RevenueCat, a subscription-infrastructure service, which receives an anonymous app-generated user id and purchase receipt data from Apple, and processes them on our behalf under RevenueCat’s Privacy Policy. What we see are anonymised transaction records (for example, “a yearly subscription started”), never your payment details.
To make the App work, it saves your progress (XP, hearts, streak and last-active day, simulated capital and equity history, trade records, earned badges, completed units, Daily results, free-sim counters, and settings) in the App’s local storage on your device. This data:
The App can create shareable content (Daily result text, equity-curve images). Sharing only happens when you tap a share or copy button, and the content goes only where you send it via your device’s share sheet or clipboard. We never see it.
The App is an educational product suitable for general audiences and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children; the usage data described in section 2 is anonymous for all users.
The analytics identifier is random and not linked to your identity, so we generally cannot connect the usage data we hold to you, and there is nothing for us to look up by name or email. Your progress data is on your device and under your control. If you believe we do hold personal information about you (for example, because you emailed us or included contact details in feedback), you may request access, correction, or deletion by contacting us. We handle personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles, and, where applicable to users elsewhere, with the GDPR and similar laws. If you are unsatisfied with our response to a privacy concern, you may complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (oaic.gov.au) or your local data protection authority.
Everything the App sends travels over HTTPS. The App holds no passwords and no payment details. Progress data on your device is protected by your device’s own security (passcode, encryption at rest as provided by iOS).
We may update this Policy from time to time. The current version will always be available at this address and linked from the App, with material changes indicated by the “Last updated” date above.
